About Us

Who We Are

Absolute Stability, engineered for the real world.

Anamoly Labs is a performance design studio obsessed with traction, stability, and durability. We build footwear and systems for riders and players who think in forces and friction, not just colors and logos. From mountain bike rock gardens to fast-growing sports like pickleball, our Hero Rubber™ compounds and Trail Tech™ stability architectures are engineered in the lab and proven in the field. Our goal is simple: create the G‑Shock of shoes—gear you can trust anywhere, for a very long time.

Our philosophy: Absolute Stability

Why Stability Comes First

Most brands start with a look, a trend, or a single use case. We start with a harder question: what does it take to actually keep you upright when things get sketchy? Whether you’re dropping into a rock garden or lunging for a line drive on the court, real performance is decided in the instant between slipping and holding on.

Absolute Stability is our North Star. It means designing footwear and traction systems that keep your body stacked over your feet under unpredictable, high‑consequence forces—not just when conditions are perfect. Like the G‑Shock of shoes, our goal isn’t to be the lightest or the loudest; it’s to be the gear you reach for when you absolutely need it to work, again and again.

Trail to Court DNA

From Trail to Court

Anamoly Labs started on the mountain bike trail, where every pedal stroke, rock strike, and wet root tests your grip and balance. We built our first footwear for riders who push into rock gardens, off‑camber slabs, and blown‑out corners—places where losing traction or rolling an ankle can have real consequences. That environment forced us to rethink how rubber, chassis, and ankle protection work together.

As we grew, we saw the same forces show up in a different arena: the pickleball court. Hard cuts, off‑axis landings, quick recoveries, and crowded space around the kitchen line all punish unstable shoes. Instead of treating pickleball as a totally separate problem, we brought our trail‑tested traction and stability thinking to the court—adapting fit, lacing, and geometry around the same core demands: grip, stability, and long‑term durability.

Today, that Trail to Court DNA is built into everything we make. Our lab work and tech are designed to travel across categories—not stay locked in one sport. If a system can keep you confident on wet roots and dusty rock, we can tune it to keep you confident on painted lines, concrete, and whatever surfaces come next.

Technology / R&D

The Anamoly Labs Tech Stack

Hero Rubber™ (MTB‑G Compound)

Most outsoles force you to choose between grip and durability. Hero Rubber™ is our answer to that tradeoff. Built around how you load your feet on pedals and courts, it delivers confident traction on wet roots, rock, and painted lines without burning through your soles in a few rides.

Under the hood, Hero Rubber™ sits on our MTB‑G™ compound platform—a family of high‑friction formulas that we tune for different surfaces and sports while keeping the same core promise: serious grip that actually lasts.

MTB‑G™ Platform

MTB‑G™ is the compound platform behind Hero Rubber™—our family of high‑friction formulas engineered for the way riders and players actually load their feet. Instead of starting with a generic rubber recipe and hoping it holds up, we began with the physics of mountain biking and high‑intensity court sports: pedal pins, hard cuts, off‑axis landings, and constant micro‑adjustments to stay upright.

In the lab, MTB‑G compounds are pushed through abrasion, shear, and slip tests to find the balance point between maximum grip and real durability. In the field, we watch how soles behave on wet roots, dusty rock, concrete, and painted lines, then feed that data back into the next iteration. Each generation of MTB‑G is a little smarter about how it deforms, recovers, and resists rounding off under real loads.

Hero Rubber™ is the first expression of MTB‑G: a high‑friction compound tuned for mountain bike pedals and trail‑to‑court use. As Anamoly Labs grows into new products and sports, MTB‑G is our foundation for future rubbers and surface contacts—a platform we can adapt, stiffen, soften, or hybridize without losing the core promise: serious grip, engineered for the real world, that doesn’t quit after one season.

Trail Tech™ Stability Chassis + LSO

Trail Tech™ is our integrated stability chassis that keeps your foot planted when forces try to twist or roll it. We combine targeted ankle protection, a tuned midsole, and our Lateral Stability Outrigger (LSO)—a subtle extension of the shoe’s base that resists roll and twist when you land sideways or cut hard. Together with our lateral traction system, it helps keep your body stacked over your feet so you can react faster, recover quicker, and stay in the game, especially in sports like pickleball where ankle rolls are common.

Trail Tech™ and LSO were born on technical mountain bike trails, then adapted for the quick, lateral movements of court sports. The same systems that help keep you upright through off‑camber rock moves now help protect you at the kitchen line when you’re reaching for a ball that wants to pull you off balance.

Traction Lab: How We Test

Inside the Traction Lab

Traction Lab is where we try to break our own ideas before the trail or court does. In the lab, we run controlled friction tests, abrasion cycles, and torsion measurements to understand how our compounds and chassis behave under load. We look at how rubber deforms on different surfaces, how edges round off over time, and how much force it takes to make a foot start to slip or roll.

But lab numbers are only half the story. We take prototypes into the real world—onto wet roots, dusty rock, polished concrete, and painted court lines—and watch what happens when riders and players push past comfort. That field feedback loops straight back into the lab, where we adjust formulas, geometry, and support structures, then run the cycle again.

For our customers, all of this complexity boils down to something simple: more grip, fewer slips, and less ankle drama. You don’t have to think about coefficients of friction or torsional stiffness; you just feel more confident staying on the gas longer, in more conditions, with gear that doesn’t tap out early.

Origin Story & Team

Our Story

Anamoly Labs began in Southern California, in the middle of mountain bike culture that expects a lot from both riders and their gear. We watched riders trust their lives to frames, brakes, and suspension that had gotten better every year—while shoes were still mostly about graphics and fashion. That gap between serious performance and durable, do‑it‑all footwear became impossible to ignore.

We set out to build shoes that treated traction and stability with the same respect as any other critical component. Along the way, life and opportunity moved us to Austin, Texas—another proving ground for heat, hard surfaces, and fast‑growing sports. Rather than fight only in mature, incumbent‑dominated categories, we brought our trail experience to emerging spaces like pickleball, where the demand for real performance is high but the footwear often hasn’t caught up.

Anamoly Labs builds for analytical riders and players who care how things work—and who are tired of gear that looks the part but falls apart. We’re a small, obsessive team of designers, testers, and engineers who’d rather overbuild something and learn from it than ship another me‑too product. The names on our tech—Hero Rubber™, MTB‑G™, Trail Tech™, LSO—are just shorthand for a deeper commitment: making gear that earns your trust every time you lace it up.

Looking Ahead

What’s Next for Anamoly Labs

We’re just getting started. In the coming years, we’re expanding the MTB‑G compound family into new formulations tuned for different surfaces, climates, and use cases—from grippier court blends to compounds optimized for wet rock, urban environments, and beyond. On the stability side, we’re evolving Trail Tech™ and our lateral systems into new chassis architectures and protection packages that can travel from trail to court to city without losing their edge.

What won’t change is our commitment to R&D, patentable technologies, and long-term durability over fast fashion. We’d rather ship fewer products that truly earn their place in your gear quiver than chase trends. If you’re interested in where traction, stability, and design can go next, we’d love you to come along for the ride.

Where it All Started

Our story starts with an obsession to build the ultimate mountain bike shoe.

For the last decade or more, finding the right pair of mountain bike shoes has involved an unavoidable tradeoff between finding what looks good or what functions well — since very few products in the category managed to do both at the same time.

Our Story

A Fateful Crash

After sustaining a bad injury sustained during a Birthday trip to the Whistler mountain bike park on his 30th birthday (2017) our founder and Chief Designer Chris Armstrong was convinced the accident would have never occurred if not for to inferior quality rubber with poor grip. He knew there had to be a better way and set off to find it.

After pitching the idea internally while working at a motocross company—and being resolutely ignored and written off time and again—our founder Chris Armstrong decided to go out on a limb and start a company. First prototypes were developed in 2019, and a Kickstarter was launched two years later in the summer of 2021.

Our Story

Idea Genesis

For the longest time, footwear in the mountain bike marketplace has been notoriously bland, monotonous, and restricted to a limited range of colors and styles.

After taking a trip to local Big Bear Mountain in Southern California, Chris is inspired by a Hawaiian frame guard wrap he spots on the hill.

By taking cues from custom mountain bike frame protectors and mudguard graphics, as well as ski & snowboard culture, he decides to design footwear that’s as stylish as it is functional.

Our Story

Putting Pen on Paper

While still working a full-time job for a motocross protective gear company, Chris starts developing early sketches and working with a manufacturer to bring early prototypes to life.

These first functional prototypes are tested, refined, tested, and refined again — before they'd eventually go on to debut for the very first time in the summer of 2021 in front of the global crowdfunding community.

Our Story

Kickstarter Launch

From just an idea we launched on Kickstarter with an initial round of one-off prototypes and a kooky campaign video. The campaign would go on to reach a base of over 400 backers in 30+ countries worldwide, and would later launch on the sister crowdfunding platform, Indiegogo.

The online mountain bike press quickly picks up on it, and the mountain bike community takes notice. Now the real work begins: developing mass production shoe pairs from the original set of concept prototypes.
